3 books i would take with me to a deserted Island, and Why?
*Contains Spoilers*
Book 1: How to Fall in Love by Cecelia Ahern.
This book is a heartache. You're introduced to this woman who has had the most traumatic experience, you just want life to give her a break. But it doesn't! It keeps getting more distressing, and you find yourself thinking HOW IS SHE SURVIVING!? But then she meets Adam, and he changes everything. She's trying to make Adam fall in love with life, and in that process, she falls in love with him. All while trying to help him win back his ex-girlfriend. Now, you're probably thinking "WHY WOULD YOU TAKE THAT!?" I'd take this book because Christine doesn't entirely let life bring her down, even when she is down she's trying to bring Adam back up again. You learn throughout the process of reading the book that things do happen for a reason sometimes, and that life is just life. If you want things to change, then you really have to try. If you hate your life and all you do is sit there and say you hate it, but don't try and change it then you're not helping yourself. Christine is Adams kick up the arse to get life back to how he wants it, and then everything slowly but surely fall into place.
Book 2: Yours Truly by Kirsty Greenwood.
This book. UGH. I love everything little thing about it, every word, every awkward moment, every single thing. Natalie is a people pleaser! She's the kind of person who can be guilt tripped into anything. The first few chapters for example, she gets the WORST hair cut... what does she do? SAY SHE BLOODY LOVES IT. Then goes home and gets emotional about it! Her sister is a typical chav, and her mom is an emotional wreck after her divorce. She feels she has to keep everyone happy, even when it comes to her OWN FUCKING WEDDING. But really, this is the most uplifting novel. Natalie get's hypnotised, and she can't stop telling the truth. People pleaser + Truth = AWKWARD. I'd take this because I'd definitely be lonely on this Island, I'd have zero interaction with humans, so I'd need a good laugh. When her life gets turned upside down in this novel, you cannot help but laugh. What could be funnier than admitting on a Radio Station that you want have sex with a local bartender, when your fiance is listening!? CRINGE. Honestly, this would help uplift me and make me realise that no matter how shit things are. It's usually nothing a good laugh won't cure, even if it's the worst thing in the world. Even laughing for 10 minutes takes that pain away.
Book 3: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.
Eleanor is chunky, yet funky and different. Park is Asian, awkward and stereotyped. When the two collide, the whole world changes. Eleanor has a shit home life, and Park is awkward. He loves Eleanor, but her life just stops her from committing to him fully. There are moments in this novel where you just wanna squeeze Park because he's such a good person, but then there's times when you just want to throw the book because it just isn't going your way. It's not the happiest novels, which is a shocker considering John Green didn't write it. It shows that if you shed light on a dark situation for long enough, it can help you forget that there's even any darkness at all. Park is the light in Eleanor's life, and i feel like I'd need reminding of positive things being stranded and all. He doesn't stop trying to adapt to her life, and that helps. Even when they each other in the end, it's still okay because things get better for both of them. But they were still each others light at the end of the tunnel that was American high school.
What would books would you take?
Thanks for reading.
