Placement; Day 3 & 4.
20th & 21st June.
Understanding how a book gets it's publicity, and how it all works is really something that is interesting to me. I love finding out about how we market things, how we attempt to get the pre-orders in, how we match merchandise to the upcoming novel. I am in a fantasy world that helps create fantasy worlds for other people.
Mailing, Ordering books, helping with online things, reading new books... It's never getting old. My first week is almost over, and I'm yet to come down to earth and realise exactly where i am. I love helping people within the office, it feels as if i am part of something bigger and better. I find myself thinking "PEOPLE CAN HAVE A JOB THEY LOVE?! WHAT?!" I hate early mornings, but everyday so far i have been early to drag my butt to the best place! People probably think i'm crazy, but the novelty is yet to wear off. I AM HERE.
In conclusion to my 3rd & 4th day at Penguin, i am in love with publishing. In school it was always bashed to be more creative than academic. If you weren't both then you were basically perceived as useless to your teachers. BUT, this is a place of creativity. Books would be nothing words on a page if people weren't artistic and creative. I feel like i have finally found an industry that is for me, and i feel like it's rare to feel the security of belonging somewhere and loving where you work but i do love it. After 4 days, i can say i do.
Hopefully i continue to learn more, and become more and more passionate. It can only get better from here, right?
